V. O Lord, open my app. R. While my assistant fetches my panini.

Second from the left, though I think he'd rather be identified as "third from the Far Right," Monsignor Guido Marini, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI's former and Papa Francesco's current MC, was just sighted in New York City's Penn Station.

Check out the Obama-Administration-provided gang of super cassock-wearing Secret Service ops . . . . scary-looking dudes!

It looks like they're all reciting the Divine Office from their iBreviary app . . . . . I'm sure they all rose simultaneously and did the profound bow expected at the Gloria Patri . . .

All this brought back memories of Monsignor Guido's truly thunderous "Extra Omnes" at the opening of the Conclave that terminated Gutsy Guido's favorite velvet mozzetta, since, "The Carnival is over . . . "

I wonder if "Macho Man Marini" and the "Soutane Swingers" made it to the Village during their visit . . .

  4. I don't expect any of you dudes to get it, but I can't even begin to tell you how it makes this dudette feel to see NOTHING BUT MEN (with a very few old, habited nuns) in every single fucking Vatican video or TV broadcast. It's a lot like watching OPEC meetings and creates absolute alienation for at least this one dudette, who has been a part of the Church for more years than your grandparents have been alive. Pardon the rant, but the video was so depressing.

    1. Have a cocktail. "Accept the things that you cannot change......." (OOPS ! probably not the correct platitude to say when having a cocktail.)

Don't worry. In another 2000 years or so things might change.

    2. They need to feel like they have something important to do. Everyone wants to be indispensable in their own way, but some have to try harder at it. Of course, it becomes a problem once they've lost perspective and don't realize how really accommodating and gracious everyone else really is.

    3. Noooo, they don't get it, "Dudette" ... & won't until every single Catholic woman storms out of their church!. It's a MAN MADE religion, "Dudette". I see the same thing as you do when watching videos from the Vatican (or for that matter, when watching any Catholic Mass). They're living in a happy bubble, & women who remain dutifully Roman Catholic are only enabling the continuation of this phenom. There are many other roads to happiness, peace & "truth". Take it from a woman who's been there & done that!

  6. I just saw that over at Churchmilitant, Michael Merkin is begging for $30,000 so he can spend a month in Rome yelling at press conferences - I mean - covering the synod.

    1. Lacy-boy must be clutching his pearls at all of the money that Missy Bieber-hair is raising in such a short period of time.
Guess that he should have started pimping chastity rings.

    2. Since Lombardi is actually cracking down on problem journalists like Magister, perhaps he could do this thing called not giving Voris a press credential this year. Voris is an idiot blowhard and not a real journalist.

  7. One of Z's commenters is OH-so-upset that Marini is not wearing his cassock trimmed in violet.
I know that I will lose sleep tonight over it.

  8. Oh I wish I'd seen this, but on Friday when I was at Penn Station I couldn't. I was in "Special Priest Vibranium Class" with my feet up on Club Acela's furniture.

  9. Fathers and token Sister,
For your contemplation, maybe even edification and disgust:

‘In Milestones, a memoir of his life before John Paul called him to Rome, Joseph Ratzinger writes about his ordination to the priesthood. His Bavarian village was given over to days of feasting and festivities in gratitude that a young man from among them had been made a priest. It was a heady experience for that young man, says Ratzinger, and he remembers whispering to himself again and again, “This is not for you, Joseph, this is not for you.” This festivity, this honour, is not a tribute to him but a popular outburst of devotion to Christ and the ministry of his Church.
Whatever else may be meant by clericalism, it has its roots in the demonic twist by which the priest or bishop whispers to himself, “This is for me.” - Richard ‘John’ Neuhaus,

"If I saw an Angel and a priest, I would bend my knee first to the priest and then to the Angel." - St. Francis of Assisi (later quoted by St. John Vianney):

Georges Bernanos, who had attended seminary in the full flush of Pius X’s clericalist reforms, wrote of the experience, ‘It made schoolboys of us, children to the very end of our lives.”
