December 26: On the feast of Stephen . . . "ye who now will bless the poor shall yourselves find blessing"

Good King Wenceslas looked out
on the feast of Stephen,
when the snow lay round about,
deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shown the moon that night,
though the frost was cruel,
when a poor man came in sight,
gathering winter fuel.

Hither, page, and stand by me.
If thou know it telling:
yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?
Sire, he lives a good league hence,
underneath the mountain,
right against the forest fence
by Saint Agnes fountain.

Bring me flesh, and bring me wine.
Bring me pine logs hither.
Thou and I will see him dine
when we bear them thither.
Page and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together
through the rude wind's wild lament
and the bitter weather.

Sire, the night is darker now,
and the wind blows stronger.
Fails my heart, I know not how -
I can go no longer.
Mark my footsteps my good page,
tread thou in them boldly:
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
freeze thy blood less coldly.

In his master's step he trod,
where the snow lay dented.
Heat was in the very sod
which the saint had printed.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
wealth or rank possessing,
ye who now will bless the poor
shall yourselves find blessing.

John Mason Neale (1818-1866)

  1. In one of his latest posts, Zzzzz has gone vulgar. He is tossing "F-You" around right and left. Sorry, I don't think that a priest needs to be saying "F-you". If he isn't bright enough to find other ways to express himself, he should close down his blog. He is a miserable man.

  2. A goodly carol but at times I prefer the "parody" versions.

  3. Holy Feast of St. Stephen, Fatman!
Having finally unwrapped all his Amazon gifts, Ziggy booted up the laptop and finger-mashed a post that was misogynist, homophobic AND dismissive of "Protestants" (oh my). It's like one of those tins filled with three flavors of stale popcorn!
"I read in the Kansas City Star (a McClatchy paper), that some “Lutherans” are going to host a sacrilegious, fake catholic “ordination” of a woman by the usual wymyn suspects."
Damn you, McClatchy!!! - as Zod likes to say these days in persona Christi, "F-YOU!"
From the website of St. Mark Hope and Peace Church near downtown KC, we learn about the “pastor”… “pastrix”….
Did you catch that, gentle readers? The Suburbican Sybarite IS an expert Latinist!
Finally, Zildo demands that bishops take action against people who are, ahem, DECIDING ON THEIR OWN WHAT A CATHOLIC PRIEST IS. We can only hope.
Of course, in the case of the Kansas City Star, which has the knives out for Bp. Finn, I suppose he won’t get too far.
    Alas!

    1. I don't know. Maybe the Lutherans will listen to Bishop Finn. No Catholics around here listen to him, about much of anything.

  4. Dear Miss Zuhlsdorf:

We don't really care what you think.

    Up Yours very truly,

    The Protestants

  5. Dear folks on Fr. D's blog:

The Lutherans have produced some notorious ayrsewholes in recent vintage...

In order of "ass-holiness" who of these should be #1?

    Dennis Rader, the BTK killer
Michele Bachmann, the only politician certifiably more stupid than Palin OR
    John T Zuhlsdorf

    1. You mean Bachmann is even dumber than President Barry "I've visited now, I think 51 of the 57 States" Obama? The brilliant constitutional law professor (well, senior lecturer to be more precise) who thinks they speak Austrian in Austria? She's dumber than that? The breathtakingly brilliant President who told the Mexican delegation visiting the Oval Office on May 4th that, instead of Cinco de Mayo, "We'll just have to celebrate Cinco de Cuartro?" She's dumber than that? We won't even mention the Veterans' Day address, when he thanked all the "fallen heroes I see here in the audience today" for their service, along with the navy CORPSE-man who so valiantly served the nation.

Sorry, but when it comes to really dumb and utterly fraudulent politicians, Bachmann and Palin have some major competition right there in the Oval Office. Of course, we've never seen the Smartest President Ever's academic records. I'm sure he doesn't want anyone to see them because he wouldn't want his brilliance to make us feel as dumb as . . . well, Bachmann or Palin.
The law school records were sealed up by Dean Kagan on her way to the Supreme Court - such a coincidence! When it comes to entitlement, I'd say BHO and JTZ have a hell of a lot in common.

    2. Hey, 12/26@9:16PM... a couple things. Obama gets enough disrespect over at the Zmeister's blog, and Obama isn't Lutheran.

    3. Oh, I understand, 9:16. The Negro man in the White House ( or do you prefer "colored man" or "darkie") probably never went to school at all. His whole life, up until the White House, was a fabrication. He was really the sacker at a grocery store in Chicago.
Take your ignorant bigotry to Lacy-boy's internet toilet. No one here wants to hear it.

    4. Ah, 7:41, no refutation of anything I said . . . you (or somebody) gets to call Bachmann and Palin stupid. Fair enough. I didn't dispute that. But then I point out the stupidity of YOUR Messiah and, rather than deny that any of those is true (good thing you didn't, since they're all on video or audio), and all you can do is THE USUAL TIRED TEDIOUS LEFTIST schtick: "Racist!" C'mon now. You can do better than that. Or are you really a mindless Zombeyite just visiting here?

    5. "YOUR Messiah"? I don't understand.

    6. Don't worry. Neither does he.

    7. Quite the contrary, 11:57 and 12:30. When ALL YOU HAVE is the charge of "racist" to very legitimate criticisms (in fact, much more specific than those you expressed about Bachmann and Palin), it's very clear that you've invested in a flawed (too say the fucking least!) human being far more latria and dulia than you should have. Now, how about we stick to theology and leave the politics aside . . . or do you want to keep this going? If all you've got is the tired old leftist "racism" charge to my very specific critiques:

      1) A candidate for president should know there are 50 States.
      2) A brilliant Harvard scholar should know Austrians speak German.
      3) "The fourth of March" in Spanish is not "Cinco de Cuartro"
      4) Living Veterans are not Fallen Heroes.

Oh and by the way, to throw in a little theology, this is the man who said, "If my daughters make a mistake (i.e., get pregnant), I wouldn't want them punished with a baby." How's that for brilliance.

Obama is just as stupid as the two Republicans you cited.

And I'd still love to see his grades.

  6. J. Z. posts the Saturday Night Live 'Pastor Pat' Xmas mass skit and asks his Zzzombies to opinionate, i.e. agree with him.

  8. Z+ should be very careful when he declares that Anglican and Lutheran orders are invalid.

The more conservative Orthodox churches do not consider Roman orders valid. They don't even consider Roman baptism valid.

On the other hand certain Protestants don't consider either as Christian churches at all.

The whole thing could go on and on to the point of absurdity, but don't I recall Jesus saying something to the effect that those not against us are for us?

Does Z+ ever read the holy gospels?

    1. Agreed! Absolutely! As a Roman priest, I figured out long ago which apostle the bishop who ordained me succeeded (hint: the one who left the Last Supper first!). So I'd never question anyone's orders. Shouldn't we all take our cue from Pope Francis who called the late Tony Palmer, "my brother bishop"?

    2. If I am reading the article right, this Lutheran congregation is hosting the ordination of a woman to the CATHOLIC priesthood, thus the reason for Missy Zuhlsdorque's knickers being in a knot.

Z is truly a hypocrite of the lowest order. He uses the US Constitution's guarantee of religious freedom to shield himself from accountability for his arrogance, gluttony and misogyny and has a as he likes to say a "spittle flecked nutty" when other Americans avail themselves of THEIR right to freedom of religion.

When any religion overreaches there can be unintended consequences. I particularly like this one where the Church of Satan is using the SCt. Hobby Lobby decision to form a basis to exempt women from conservative "right to know" laws when they seek legal family planning. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/07/satanists-want-to-use-hobby-lobby-decision-to-exempt-women-from-anti-abortion-laws/

Anyway, I'm certain that Bishop Finn, the Lord Protector of a kiddie porn producer ex-priest will be certain to step up and loudly condemn these Lutherans.
